On Tuesday 14 July 2026, on the sidelines of the first day of the 9th Steering Committee meeting held at the Novotel Plateau (Abidjan), the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and the Republic of Liberia officially signed the agreement on the sustainable conservation of the Taï-Grebo-Krahn-Sapo (TGKS) transboundary forest complex.
A historic signing led by two committed leaders:
• 🇨🇮 Mr Abou Bamba, Minister for the Environment and Ecological Transition (Côte d’Ivoire)
• 🇱🇷 The Honourable Rudolph J. Merab Sr., Director-General of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) – Liberia
Why is this agreement a game-changer?
This unique forest complex is one of the last remaining large blocks of tropical rainforest in West Africa. By joining forces, our two nations are committed to:
• Protecting the exceptional biodiversity of this ecosystem (fauna, flora, endangered species).
• Combat deforestation and the illegal trafficking of natural resources.
• Support local communities living on the fringes of these forests to ensure sustainable and harmonious development.
This agreement marks a decisive turning point in the protection of this forest block.
