EU-funded conservation project launched in southeastern Liberia

25 Apr 2025

The European Union is supporting a major step forward for forest conservation in southeastern Liberia through the new “SUSTAIN: Sustainable Forest Conservation in southeastern Liberia” project. With an investment of USD 3.65 million over three years, the project is implemented by the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) in partnership with the Forestry Training Institute, the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (WCF), the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia, and the Universal Outreach Foundation.

An inception workshop was held on 25–26 April 2025 at the FDA’s regional office in Zwedru. The event focused on team building, communication, planning, project orientation, and identifying challenges to help guide effective implementation. To support field operations in the Grebo-Krahn, Sapo, and Proposed Kwa National Parks, WCF concluded the workshop with the donation of essential equipment to the FDA, including seven Honda motorbikes, four laptops, two printers, and two projectors.
