Theater and awareness

Raising awareness within local communities is a key strategy for promoting conservation, as messages are often best received when delivered by peers who share the same cultural and social background. Recognizing this, the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation has been collaborating for the past five years with the professional African theatre group Alma Production to engage local populations through interactive performances. These plays addressed critical environmental issues such as illegal gold mining, poaching, deforestation, and illegal cocoa farming, particularly in regions like Côte d'Ivoire. Each theatre tour has been highly successful, welcoming on average more than 5,000 participants, and using relatable storytelling, humor, and cultural relevance to spark dialogue, raise awareness, and inspire communities to take an active role in protecting their natural environment.
