It was always a priority for the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (WCF) to save the transboundary Taï-Grebo-Krahn-Sapo forest complex between Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia. Consequently, WCF offices were created in Monrovia, Zwedru and at Sapo National Park. Since 2013 the WCF is registered as a non-profit organization in Liberia under MPEA/NGO/AC#1296. Liberia, one of the least developed countries in the world, still holds 42% of the Upper Guinea Forest ecosystem, a global biodiversity hotspot, that is home to still comparatively large populations of threatened and partly endemic species, such as western chimpanzees, forest elephants, pygmy hippos and pangolins. WCF is working with the Forestry Department Authority (FDA) and created in 2016 the Grebo-Krahn National Park and presently is finalizing the creation of the Kwa National Park after extensive consultations with the local communities.
