After extensive surveys, the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation found the largest continuous chimpanzee population in the whole of West Africa in non-protected areas of the Foutah Djallon region (WCF 2012, 2014). Guinea being one of the poorest countries of the world, it has also one of the smallest protected-area coverage of Africa. Consequently, WCF offices were created in Conakry, Labé, Mamou and Koundara. Since 2011 the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation is registered as a non-profit organization in Guinea under NIF: 009109H. In close collaboration with « Office Guinéen des Parcs Nationaux et Réserves de Faune » and « Ministère de l'Environnement et du Développement Durable » the WCF created the Moyen-Bafing National Park in 2021 and presently is finalizing the creation of the Pinselli-Soyah-Sabouyah and Badiar National Parks.
